Fletcher Benton

Born in Jackson, Ohio, Fletcher Benton is one of the most influential pioneers of kinetic sculpture in today’s contemporary art world. He began his career as a sign painter, which he credits as giving him both organizational skills and discipline, before receiving a BFA from Ohio’s Miami University in 1956. His work is included in numerous private and public collections, including the Butler Institute of American Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His work has been reviewed in publications such as Art & Antiques, Art in America and ArtNews, and he is the subject of two books, Fletcher Benton (2003) and Fletcher Benton: The Language of Sculpture (2005).
