By merging new digital technologies with old mechanical ones, Jamie Burmeister animates humble materials to change their context. The resulting videos, installations and paintings are metaphors for various aspects of the human condition. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the Midwest, including at the Des Moines Art Center in Des Moines IA, the bemisUNDERGROUND and the Sioux City Art Center in Sioux City, IA. Burmeister received his BA in Exercise Science from Creighton University, an MS in Health Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and an MFA from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. This past year, the artist created the sculpture “Omaha Song” for the O! Project, sponsored by the Bemis Center, Alegent Health and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce. Burmeister is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Trickey Memorial Award, Woods Fellowship and Lewis Art Scholarship and the Nebraska Art Council’s 2007 Individual Artist Fellowship. The artist is an Art Instructor at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha.
