Jess Benjamin

Ceramist Jess Benjamin derives a great deal of inspiration for her complex sculptured from her childhood in Cozad, NE. It was on her family’s cattle ranch that she first encountered the organic shapes she would later reinterpret in clay. The artist has created ceramic sculptures based on musk thistles, hay bales and fence posts as well as more abstract shapes. A rapidly emerging artist, Benjamin’s work has been reviewed in publications such as Ceramics Monthly, NY Arts Magazine, Nebraska Life, Omaha World Herald and Today’s Omaha Woman. She has also been profiled on Nebraska Public Television’s award-winning Statewide program as well as on HGTV’s That’s Clever. A veteran of numerous shows, the artist had a one-person show Jess Benjamin: Ceramics this past summer at the Museum of Nebraska Art. After working several years as a studio assistant to Omaha artist Jun Kaneko, Benjamin just began pursuing her MFA under John Balistreri at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
