Wanda Ewing illustrates what life is like in contemporary society from the perspective of a black, single woman. Her prints explore popular culture by way of witty, satirical and often provocative personal narratives, focusing particularly on issues of beauty and self-image. Ewing has exhibited her work in solo and group shows at venues such as the Maier Museum of Art (Lynchburg, Virginia), the Leedy Voulkos Art Center (Kansas City, MO) and the International Print Center (New York, NY). She earned her BFA in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute, (San Francisco, CA) and both an MA and MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History (Iowa City, IA). The artist is an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and currently has a solo show at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery in Lincoln, NE on view through December 2. This past year, Ewing also created the sculpture “Wild Underneath” for the O! Project, sponsored by the Bemis Center, Alegent Health and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce.
