Alisa Holen creates works that nestle into the safety of their bases and huddle together on soft, but imposing, landscapes. Within such pieces, she finds echoes of dependency, deflation, comfort, contrast, inflation, elevation and finally cohesion. The artist earned both an MFA and MA in ceramics from the University of Iowa in Iowa City and a BA from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. In addition to teaching widely on the university level, Holen has exhibited her work in solo and group shows, including a recent two person exhibition this spring at the Nebraska Arts Council’s Fred Simon Gallery and a solo show at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA in January.
