Allyson Gibbs has recently been exploring the use of stitching in her paintings. She means the works to feel fragmentary with tension between the simple, line imagery and the appearance of an aged, worn object. Born and raised in Omaha, NE, Gibbs has exhibited internationally, in venues such as the bemisUNDERGROUND, painting The Wind-Up Bird in the fifth annual Student Art Competition at Omaha’s Metropolitan Community College in 2005. Her work The Elephant Painting is also featured on the cover of TO ALMOST NO ONE: Singer Songwriter Series, a box set of songs by Simon Joyner & The Fallen Men. The artist received her BFA from the University of Nebraska Omaha, and her work has been featured in publications such as Medium Magazine and the Omaha World Herald.
