Photographer Carol Golemboski combines fiction and photography through complex manipulations to create hauntingly lyrical works that reference the elusive presence of the past. By drawing and scratching on negatives and incorporating text, she infuses her stark black-and-white photographs of discarded objects with tension and mystery. In this way, she explores issues such as memory, loss and anxiety through the psychological realm of objects, which further underscore the passage of time and the inevitability of death. The artist earned her MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. A veteran of numerous solo and group exhibitions, she is also the recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, among others.
