Michele Kong imparts a light touch to her work, which falls somewhere between sculpture and installation art. She uses industrial materials to suggest natural phenomenon such as snowflakes or water droplets. Translucency, light, pattern and repetition all combine to suspend ephemeral moments, captivating the viewer in the act of seeing and perceiving. Kong received her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Colorado in Boulder and also studied in Florence, Italy. She earned her MFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. The artist has exhibited widely in a variety of art venues, including the Museo de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Chile, and the Bemis Center presented her solo show Critical Density earlier this year.
