Steve Klein

Glass artist Steve Klein grew up charged with tenets such as compromise, resolution and humor. These were the criteria for life and happiness: in everyday life, moments occur that require compromise, resolution and action to create balance. Klein is accordingly challenged by that act of balancing, and this is what he addresses through his work. Through the use of shape, color, stripes, line, texture and the incomparable reflection of light that only glass can provide, he create situations that question this balance. Klein’s recent work seeks to explore, appreciate and have fun with the fragile state of balance. During the process of making glass, he engages in a continuous dialogue with the work. Resolution is always a negotiation between idea, material, heat, gravity and the artist himself. In the end, he is contented if he can fill a space with an object that contains thought, humor, balance and beauty. Klein studied at California State University at Long Beach. He has exhibited his work widely in solo and group shows at venues such as the Bullseye Connection Gallery (OR), the Orange County Museum of Art (CA) and Espace Verre (Montreal, Quebec). His work is also included in numerous collections, including the Studio at Corning (Corning, NY), the Nacional Museo Del Vidreo (La Granja, Segovia, Spain) and the Museum Of Art and Design (New York, NY). Klein’s glass work has additionally been reviewed in publications such as Glass Art Museum, Oficio y arte, (Spain; 2003 Oct/Nov Issue Cover and main article) and American Craft Magazine.
