Painter and sculptor Tory Muller draws inspiration from the techniques and crafts of past masters and fuses them with contemporary issues that are important to him. He approaches his art like an archaeologist in reverse: he takes familiar, known objects from the present (some that are imbued with personal or collective memory) and represents them as mysterious relics from the past, leaving viewers to interpret their meaning. Muller earned his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and has taught at the Joslyn Art Museum, Iowa Western Community College and Metro Community College.
