Chris Romer

Chris Romer

Christopher Romer uses wood as his primary raw material to create large, freestanding works and hanging objects, as well as mounted wal pieces. His seemingly minimalist works are intensely sculptural, while their elaborately painted surfaces and textured patinas recall aspects of carpentry, patterns of animal skins, plumage, marble stones and flesh. Romer received his BFA in Painting from the Chelsea School of Art in London and an MFA in Sculpture from the Art Institute of Chicago. The artist is the recipient of numerous grants, including a Fulbright Hays Grant to Germany and two Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grants. The artist has shown his work extensively in Europe and the U.S., and his art is included in the collections of Northwestern University and the Delfina Studio Trust among others.
