David Sharpe uses pinhole photography to investigate Western terrain. Addressing each subject through an esoteric lens, Sharpe explores three landscapes sites: the expansive plains east of Denver, the compelling Spiral Jetty landform in Utah and the dramatic shorelines of Mendocino, California. By utilizing photographic paper instead of film in cameras constructed from oatmeal boxes or tea-cans, the artist creates large-scale images that reflect meditative and insightful rhythms. Sharpe has exhibited extensively in Colorado since 1984 and has been included in exhibitions at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, the Arvada Center for the Arts & Humanities, the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center and the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins.
